As part of the Solution Architecture team, the Senior Solution Architect will support the Lead Solution Architect to build a cohesive and high performing team that will bring to life solutions. Undertaking and overseeing day to day activities including development of solution designs, strategic alignment assessments and growing technology capabilities.
The Senior Solution Architect will assist the Lead Solution Architect in quantifying the SA resource demand prior to allocation in order to meet the business requirements.
Support the Lead Solution Architect in defining and evolving the Solution Architecture capability, supporting the recruitment and development of the Solution Architecture team and providing quality assurance on the outputs of the team across the specification, design and implementation of solution designs across the business.
Reporting to the Lead Solution Architect, the Senior Solution Architect will focus on:
Continuous Improvement of SA service: Supports the Lead SA in the execution of and adherence to the SA competency framework, the Performance Objectives, Training Strategy, Promotion & Recruitment Strategy and Process.
Quality Assurance: Use defined controls and feedback loops to assess and maintain the quality of SA outputs, liaising with the Lead Solution Architect and relevant project stakeholders to put in place appropriate plans where improvement is needed.
SA Resources: Contribute to the SA Tool Kit, SA Handbook, standards/templates/guides. On-board new Solution Architecture recruits using the SA Induction materials to ensure both permanent and freelance SAs are supported appropriately and orientated to the Thames Water and Thames Digital environment and culture.
Thames Water Change Framework: Actively support the Lead SA in the evolution of the TWCF (aka TPDF), working with key peers in the Change world to prototype and test process and artefacts, bringing forward new ways of working and deliver training of changes to the SA community.
Line & Task management of SAs: Conduct appropriately regular progress reviews, act as escalation point and facilitate remediation, provide guidance to SAs on the end to end change lifecycle. Quality Assure SA work and documented outputs feeding into the Lead Solution Architect by way of regular performance feedback, quarterly as a minimum. For permanent employees - agree performance and personal objectives, conduct 121s; conduct mid and full year performance review and calibration, coach and mentor SAs.
Support the pipeline of initiatives: Responsible for pre-Business Change Board and Thames Digital (I2M/TPDF) stage 0 and stage 1 SA activities.
SA time allocation (End to End): Responsible for weekly reporting of SA activity and actual demand of resource, liaise with the Lead Solution Architect, and as directed with the Resource Allocation Team, to ensure SA resource is used to maximum effect and on priority initiatives.
Orchestrate assignment allocation of SAs: Responsible for ensuring the Person Request Form is completed, checked and appropriately challenged prior to submission to the Resource Allocation Team for consideration. Tracking usage of SAs on initiatives and advising on the need for more/less SA time allocation to an initiative.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrable experience of Solution Architecture, with expertise in coaching and mentoring peers and junior members of the team, across a range of capabilities and career life stages.
- Able to rapidly assimilate new situations and evolving organisational dynamics.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of current IT technologies and practices.
- Ability to lead a team of highly skilled individuals.
- Ability to adapt to emergent architectural needs, managing customer expectations.
- Experience of using technologies to deliver solutions that provide business wide capabilities.
- Experience of working with other architects, at both and enterprise and solution level.
- Authoritative and collaborative manner – able to explain architectures to a wide variety of stakeholders, with awareness of their motivations and interests.
- Astute and aware of organisational, team, and individual motivations.
- Able to adapt to various ways of working and approaches, according to the needs of the customer.
