This is a truly unique opportunity to join a small team of dedicated engineers focused on sustaining the life-saving and war fighting capability of the company's fleets world-wide. Unlike initial product design, customer support engineering requires a mind-set obsessed with the rapid development of innovative technical solutions to keep helicopters flying and lateral and deep analysis of customer feedback to create product improvements which ensure that the Company's helicopters remain safe and at the cutting edge.
The UK business supports an extensive in-service military helicopter fleet operated by many nations, including some of the most technologic advanced helicopters in the world. Providing the UK business with over 50% of its revenue, the after sales support is an extremely important element of the business.
This role is to provide the leadership and management of a team of repair design engineers, developing repair solutions to recover aircraft back into a condition fit for flight and continued operations. In addition the role is to provide feedback into the business on the types and severity of required repairs, allowing improvement and long term design solutions to be developed.
Key Responsibility Areas
*Maintain Customer Care - Build and sustain sound and professional working relationships with all stakeholders, to ensure the ongoing development of commercial opportunities for the business. Working with relevant Engineering specialists, ensure the provision of repair schemes meets the technical and programme requirements of our customers.
*Product Development - Maintain agreed KPls and contractual requirements, with due regard for cost, time, quality, and resource usage. Provide product improvement advice ensure that experience is considered for new designs.
*Develop Organisational Expertise - Ensure sufficient technical expertise within the department, to provide an effective service. Manage the correct balance between the number of staff and the work in hand, including any future agreed projects or work packages.
*Information Management - Ensure maintenance of the Repair Design document management system, ensuring the correct systems and controls are in place to maintain effective and auditable Document Control.
*Financial Management - Ensure that tasks are loaded into the department via the appropriate Tasking system, correctly and negotiated for cost to cover the respective design activity. Monitor the costs to prevent overspend.
*Process Management - Ensure that company and departmental processes are being adhered to. Also ensure processes detailed within repair instructions include those most suitable to take into account: - Materials, operator's facilities, skill level and tooling needed or available.
*People Management - Assess staff training needs against personal and business needs, and then to formulate and implement a training plan. Ensure that the staff has the correct levels of approvals to conduct their business. Create a safe and productive office environment that complies with company Health and Safety Standards.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
*HNC equivalent or higher in engineering discipline with suitable number of years in development or design fields.
*Communication skills at all levels with stakeholders and customers.
*Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative in setting and approving technical and quality standards.
*Problem solving skills.
*Persuasion and influencing skills.
