The company manufactures a world class & renowned product which they sell successfully both in the UK & the US. Their growing facility is based close to the Westonbirt Arboretum, near Malmesbury.
The Production Manager will be responsible for operational excellence of our manufacturing facility and accountable for the production of our premium quality range of wooden products. Critical to success will be the ability to develop a high performance team culture, embedding a consistent approach to efficient workflow and processes, whilst striving for continuous improvements to optimise production capacity. The candidate must have a proven track record of effectively managing a team of production supervisors and operatives, improving efficiencies and increasing output. They will oversee the daily workings of production and raw materials warehouse. They must ensure that raw material and finished product quality remains high at all times.
Strong change management skills with a forward thinking approach to ensure production operations are developed in-line with company growth plans.
Responsible for all aspects of production, procurement and planning of raw materials warehousing.
People and Process:
*Lead, recruit, train and mentor the team towards operational excellence, to include the delivery of production KPIs and continuous improvement.
*Forward planning requirements in line with yearly production forecasts and budgets to meet stock build requirements for seasonal campaign peaks.
*Liaise with supervisors to plan and manage resources to support production schedules.
*Manage resources over multiple shifts, ensuring production targets are met on a cost-effective basis.
*Achieving effective and efficient production through development of staff and processes to achieve daily, weekly and monthly production schedules.
*Working alongside the Production Scheduling Manager to ensure the necessary workforce is in place to meet production demands.
*Ensure employee engagement through fair and consistent application of policies, career path development, absence and disciplinary procedures, reward and recognition.
*Ensures that the supervisors lead effectively and will assume responsibility, particularly when the production manager is not present.
*Records and reviews staff performance, identifying training needs and sourcing most appropriate providers.
*Remains, and keeps others, calm in dealing with setbacks and changing priorities involved in supplying fast-moving consumer/retail markets
*Remains fair while strongly enforcing company policies- e.g. mobile phone usage, smoking breaks, absence etc
*Communicates with finance, sales and marketing managers to ensure they are aware of production activities and developments as necessary.
*Anticipates, plans, organises, and implements raw material and finished goods activity in a timely manner
*Negotiates and purchases the raw materials at best price, payment and delivery terms without sacrificing high quality standards and ensuring that we never run out of raw materials.
*Manages the stock control, and checks that inventory records are accurate.
*Reviews contracts with services required for production, raw materials and warehousing.
*Identifies and assesses Third Party storage and distribution providers in anticipation of running out of space.
Systems and Process
*Ensure operational activities are conducted within the framework of ERP system workflows and processes, health and safety, quality, environmental and HR procedural infrastructures.
*Ensures that the ERP system (M1) is being employed correctly with accurate data input in every facet of production.
*Analyses data generated by M1 to increase productivity, reduce down-time and control quality.
*Looks for opportunities to use new technology to streamline operations and drive cost reduction
*Creates a detailed production schedule based on strict deadlines and ensures that it is delivered on time and in full.
*Follows up on any interruptions to production schedule and ensures lost time is caught-up.
*Manage and monitor sickness and holidays.
*Monitors production standards to ensure that they remain continually high, particularly in times of staff and product changes.
*Manages expansion of production in a timely manner without a drop in quality standards.
*Makes sure the working environment is kept to a high standard with well-maintained equipment to ensure best possible product quality.
*Reports on RTM results each month to Executive Team within 3 working days of month-end, continually striving to identify and implement improvements to reduce RTMs.
*Ensure testing for new ranges and product development is thorough, working with the Product Designer to resolve design issues which may affect production efficiencies or quality.
*Stays up to date on current Health and Safety and Employment legislation
*Ensures that Health and Safety regulations are followed at all times.
*Looks to improve H&S on continuous basis
*Reports quarterly to the Board (via Managing Director) on "Accidents", "Near-Misses" and "Improvements" (either learnt or directed by H&S Consultants).
*Signs-off staff attendance declarations for pay-roll.
*Management reporting of KPIs, including stock build, production efficiencies per shift, operator, reduction of scrap rates, minimising machine downtime…
*Communication between senior management and production staff.
