About the role:

The Enterprise Connected Assets Architect will be responsible for the architecture and technology underpinning the Operational Technology used by Thames Water.

Operational technology supports the physical systems and assets for water and waste services including the sensors, monitors and controlling systems utilised throughout the network.  

The Enterprise Connect Assets architect is a critical resource working with the OT function to define our current landscape, a target state for 2025 and beyond with roadmaps to support delivery to achieve the target. The Architect will be directly supporting the connected assets function with the CTO team and in turn the wider operational technology and planning teams.

The ultimate purpose is to support the alignment of our OT and IT/Digital systems to support Thames Water in reaching the target of delivering excellent and efficient services to our customers by creating being the leading digital enabled water utility.

As part of your role, you will be expected to:

Define and manage the overall Operational Technology Architecture & strategic roadmap for Thames Water's Enterprise. Also define and manage Architecture principles, blueprints, Enterprise Application patterns and technology standards.

Identify important potential technologies and approaches to address current and future Operational Technology needs within the Enterprise, and evaluate their applicability and fit, as well as leading the definition of standards and best-practices for their use.
Provide hands-on application of Operational Technology solutions and processes to support proof-of-concept development, review of critical systems and training to other teams within the wider organisation.

Support Head of Enterprise Architecture & CTO in defining and managing the Architecture and Technology governance processes for the Operational Technology landscape and integration with the rest of the Digital Enterprise.

Responsible for driving standards for Operational Technology and ensure that adherence to these standards is monitored and followed.

Work with Thames Water technical leadership to develop a strategic plan to keep Operational Technology Architecture contemporary, cost competitive and meeting the needs of the business.

Communicate detailed technical information in both written and verbal form across a wide range of audiences, including business stakeholders, users, developers, project management, and other architects.

Collaborate with colleagues, customers, vendors, and other parties to understand and develop architectural solutions across the enterprise.

Develop an understanding of existing systems and processes, their strengths and limitations, and the current and future needs of the environment in which they exist as well as providing solutions to how they may be improved and developed.

Participate in the evaluation and selection of new solutions & products, including requirements definition, vendor and product evaluations.

Act as an escalation point for technical teams and provides hands on expertise.

 To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Significant experience in the capacity of Enterprise Architect or Application Architect, with demonstrable experience of working within an Operational Technology domain.
  • Strong understanding of IOT.
  • Strong knowledge of architecture methodologies, principles and frameworks, ideally TOGAF.
  • Strong SAP experience (ideally Asset Management).
  • Excellent understanding of SCADA or similar systems.
  • Experience in working with 3rd party delivery partners.
  • Extensive years’ experience of practical IT architecture.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills and is fully experienced at dealing with stakeholders.
  • Proficient and effective communicator within an entrenched and idiosyncratic team.
  • Experience of different IT delivery approaches (waterfall, agile, lean…).
