Job Description

Our volunteers are vital to the work that we do. You could make a huge difference to a blind veteran's life by volunteering with us.

It doesn't matter who you are, what you do or what skills you have. Even if you don't have much time to spare, you could change someone's life by volunteering for as little as a few hours a month

There are so many ways to volunteer with Blind Veterans UK.

  • You could provide crucial companionship by visiting an isolated blind veteran at home.

  • You could drive a veteran in your community to essential appointments and social events.

  • You could get involved with fundraising collections or help out at our events.

Every one of our volunteers plays a critical role in helping us rebuild lives after sight loss.

By becoming a volunteer with Blind Veterans UK, you'll be part of an amazing nationwide team who are changing lives every day. And you'll get a chance to make friends and learn new skills too.

We'll invest in you by providing training and development opportunities, and we'll reimburse you for out-of-pocket expenses such as travel costs.

Ken and Liam's story

Royal Air Force veteran Ken lost his sight due to age-related macular degeneration. He struggled to cope, but when he met volunteer Liam, things turned around.

Like many of the veterans we support, Ken was suffering from social isolation. We provided the training and equipment that Ken needed to live independently. And we connected him with our volunteer, Liam, who has had a profound impact on Ken's life. Watch the video to find out more about their story.

Drivers are essential to maintaining our blind veterans' independence, confidence and wellbeing. You'll help beneficiaries get out and about in their communities, and travel to social events and essential appointments.

Activities Helper

Fundraiser

Our volunteer Fundraisers do everything from supporting us at large events to leading bucket collections on the high street. They are key to increasing our profile in the community and raising the vital funds we need to support our veterans.
