About the role:
We’re looking for a Yard Foreman to join our team in Carrington. Based on a 50 hour week working Monday – Friday, you’ll be responsible for ensuring all work is allocated and distributed whilst complying with Transport Legislation, Health & Safety and customer service requirements.

Joining our friendly team you will ensure that the Transport Plan is delivered for the customer’s products on time and in full using the most cost effective means possible and best use of available resources including maximising the utilisation of Menzies Distribution Solutions Ltd in line with current driver hours and WTD legislation. Support the shunting operation as and when required along with some local deliveries

In addition to a standard salary of £31,000 overtime will be available after 50 hours. With a holiday allowance of 20 days plus bank holidays.

What your day will look like:

Manage Safe operating practices and PPE adherence in Yard
Support the Team Leader to ensure that the transport loading and tipping plan for loads to be tipped and loaded is delivered utilising the software available at site to ensure the loads are booked in correctly.
Liaise with the shunting/driving team to ensure you are fully aware of any delays and possible issues tipping and loading and take action to minimise these.
Liaise with the internal logistics team as required in relation to delays or issues with loads to be loaded or tipped.
Co-ordinate a late load/tip report in line with any operational challenges/issues faced during the shift.
Ensure adequate briefing of shunters/drivers is taking place to ensure that they fully understand their instructions.
Ensure adequate debriefing of shunters/drivers at the end of shift to ensure that all documentation has been completed correctly.

What we need from you:

People management skills
Experience of working in a busy Transport Operation
IT literate
Knowledge of Health & Safety
Knowledge of Transport systems.
Self-starter who works on their own initiative.
Team builder / player

Good communication skills
Lateral thinker
Works well under pressure
Able to develop relationships with others (both internal and external)
Problem solving and decision-making skills.
Class 1 (C+E) Driving Licence (advantageous)
