While initially he will like his own space, he will want to slowly build a relationship with you when he is ready. You will need to watch, listen and understand how he likes to be supported and this will help you to help him to try new things, to look at new activities and develop positive relationships. He will be nervous about taking some new steps - and you may be too!

On a day-to-day basis, he would like you to help him with some aspects of personal care to provide minimal assistance to get ready for the day. He will need some emotional encouragement and practical support to live an independent lifestyle.  Support will include budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals – family recipes are always welcome!

Experience with challenging behaviour and positive behaviour support is preferred. Some days may be difficult, but we think it will be worth it as you will be a key player in supporting him to make the decisions that will enable him to live the life that he chooses. This may take perseverance and resilience on your part but the reward will be huge when you see the difference you can make, but most of all the smile on his face!
