Job Description

We are looking for positive, compassionate and caring Support Workers to join our team in Ilford (IG1 and IG3 post codes) where we support adults with learning disabilities. We have a range of Full time and Part time opportunities on a permanent basis.

If you consider yourself to be reliable, enthusiastic and forward thinking we would like you to consider joining us as a support worker in our service in Ilford.

You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work that we do, alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed.

Experience is not necessary however a genuine interest and passion to support people with learning disabilities is essential.

The people you will be supporting love a variety of activities including music, watching television, dancing, shopping, baking, involving in meal preparation, art and craft, painting, gardening, socialising, going on day trips, cinema, being part of their community and can at times have a hectic schedule. All the above play a significant part in their life.

As well as the team that support them, family members are very involved in support. Being social and having conversations about things that are of interest and daily life is something they truly value. However, sometimes crowded, or noisy environment are not fun, and that is something that some of the people we support find difficult to manage.

Indoor activities include music sessions, one to one interactive session, art and craft, painting, involving in meal preparation and laundry, life skills and television. We support a variety of people from different cultures so it would be helpful to have some cooking skills and idea's in this area. You will be provided with adequate training to enable you to do your work confidently which include Positive behaviour support, Emergency first aid and many more during your induction training.
