The Structural Test Laboratory performs critical strength testing of new aircraft designs that is required for Civil and Military certification of the aircraft. As a Test Engineer, you will plan, co-ordinate and execute structural test activities required to qualify structural components of the helicopter, including aircraft structures, rotors and transmissions. These tests will include both static and fatigue testing of components through the use of computer controlled hydraulic systems, including data acquisition and analysis to ensure the tests performed meet the required standards.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Your main activities will include, but not be limited to:
*Conducting structural tests.
*Discussion / Preparation of Test Proposals with other functions.
*Calibration of test specimens and test rig components.
*Setting up of tests.
*Running static and fatigue tests.
*Analysis of data during and post test.
*Improving test method and keeping test methods updated.
You are responsible for taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and ensuring personal working practices confirm to the Company Health & Safety Policy in the Test Laboratory (specific responsibilities are detailed within HSP1015).
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
*Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical, aeronautical or other engineering) or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship together with experience in mechanical engineering.
As a Structural Test Engineer, you will either have, or will gain experience in the following:
*Comprehensive knowledge and experience in testing techniques including experience in the areas below.
*Structural and Component static and fatigue testing.
*Hydraulic Servo Control systems.
*Experience in test rig design.
*Experience in the design of hydraulic systems/installations for test rigs.
*Experience in the definition and design of servo control systems for the control of structural tests.
*Knowledge in the use of computer based design tools (CATIA, CAD, MathCAD etc).
*Experience in test instrumentation (instrumentation definition, types of instrumentation, installation, calibrations).
*Experience in data acquisition, data logging and data handling techniques.
*Flexible attitude with willingness and ability to work in a team environment is essential.
*Full driving license.
