The successful candidate will support the Specialist Process Controller in ensuring the overall operation of the desalination plant at Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works to treat saline water abstracted from the river Thames fit for distribution into the London water network.
You will work as part of a shift team and perform a range of assigned operator activities including operation, water quality sampling & testing, routine checks, first line maintenance and problem solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. This may also involve using specialist electrical, mechanical or ICA skills.
This role will involve:
Assisting the specialist process controller and other technicians to ensure the continuous operation of the desalination plant and its equipment, working alongside and assisting the site process control engineer and managers to ensure site wide key performance indicators are met.
Responsible for first line maintenance and process fault-finding while reporting any defective equipment, to ensure a swift resolution following any breakdowns, and for monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance is met and the works meet regulatory quality standards and customer demand.
Undertake safety and security checks and take ownership of your own, and colleagues, health and safety through escalating any concerns to your manager and resolving them yourself where possible.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
You must have good practical experience in a relevant industry and in a related role along with experience of helping to manage or control the appropriate processes.
You will have a minimum of GCSE level maths and English or equivalent, and have completed an NVQ level 2 units or equivalent experience in addition to Appointed Persons for HV (electrical work). A technical City and Guilds or HNC qualification is also desirable.
You must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including working in confined spaces, chemical treatment, possess a valid driving licence, be computer literate, especially with Office software, and previous experience of SCADA systems would be advantageous.
