The difference our new Senior Mechanical Engineer will make

We have an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take up the role as the technical lead for the Submarine Abandonment System and Stores design team. You will lead this team to deliver the Production Definition phase of the design and subsequent Build and Test phases. The system provides four encapsulated life raft systems with sufficient capacity for the entire crew of the submarine which are suitable for use in a surface abandonment scenario. This will be the first system of this kind on a UK submarine.

Day to day, you'll lead, conduct and support the technical aspects of developing the Abandonment System and Stores design, lead a team of typically 2-3 engineers including line management and performance management, take responsibility for the resolution of outstanding technical decisions, including obtaining buy-in from the relevant stakeholders and work to prioritise, define and allocate tasks within the engineering team, including estimating and reporting. Lead the team using the 'Agile' project management techniques

Essential experience
Have a proven track record of leading an engineering design team.
Proven experience in the design of high integrity equipment in a relevant environment (i.e. maritime, aviation, oil and gas).
Proficient at 3D CAD, NX or Inventor preferred. Experience with other 3D CAD systems will be considered.
In depth knowledge of engineering drawing practice and relevant British and International standards.
