Senior IT Support Engineer
College location: East Surrey College (Redhill) predominantly, and John Ruskin College (Croydon)
Salary: Circa £38,000 (Subject to qualifications, skills and experience)
Hours: Full time (37 hours/week)
We are currently seeking to appoint a hard-working and enthusiastic Senior IT Support Engineer to join our busy, internal IT Services department, working Cross-College at both East Surrey College & John Ruskin College.
In this extremely busy position you will be working in a technical, hands-on job role where you will utilise your server, storage, network and virtualisation knowledge to help provide for the strategic planning, day-to-day administration, maintenance, fault finding and use of the College Group’s information technology networks, hardware and software.
You will have a positive approach to change and a proactive attitude to effectively support the IT Manager (College Group) with delivery of the department’s strategy across the Colleges. You will carry out regular timely network upgrades, monitoring and checks, maintain asset lists including catalogue of computer software and hardware, and manage and assist in the deployment of hardware and software rollout.
You will also use your excellent customer relationship and technical skills to provide mentorship to junior members at both sites, with responsibility for managing the IT infrastructure and ultimately be an escalation point for resolving complex IT issues.
The successful candidate must:
* Have a MCSE qualification or equivalent
* Be an ITIL practitioner
* Have a high level of knowledge of web-based technologies
* Have a computer based degree (or equivalent in Computer Engineering or another relevant field)
* Proven supervisory experience with the ability to work in a team but give leadership where required
* Have an excellent understanding for the support of Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop technologies and share best practices such as in the in use of Active Directory.
* Have 3rd line technical knowledge with excellent Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
* Have HP Networking experience including HP IMC monitoring tool
Please note: Following current Government COVID-19 guidance the majority of our staff are working from College campus, but staff in some specific roles/departments may be required to work remotely at times. It is therefore highly desirable that candidates have experience of working from home and utilising video conferencing packages (e.g. Microsoft Teams or Zoom) in order to successfully carry out their role, or it is essential that they can demonstrate the capability to adapt to this and pick up the required Technological knowledge very quickly.
