Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: South-West / Corsham

Net Consulting is recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with current SC clearance to provide 3rd line infrastructure support to an established managed service, providing ITSM and Performance Monitoring capabilities to our client.

Senior Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities
The successful candidate’s key responsibilities and duties will include:
• Building and maintaining ESXi & Windows Domain Controllers / servers, & putting processes in place to allow SMEs to self-provision VMs
• Designing and configuring Active Directory group policies, maintaining user accounts and implementing security restrictions
• Managing and supporting infrastructure including switches, routers, SAN storage, tape storage and UPS systems
• Managing VMWare configuration of vSwitches, VMotion and resource allocation
• Managing patching and anti-virus updates
• Maintaining interfaces to external data feeds (e.g. CMDB feeds)
• Managing backups and facilitating Disaster Recovery data synchronisation
• Responding to service desk tickets in an appropriate manner & timescale
• Proactively managing a Continuous Service Improvement Plan, identifying better methods of building, deploying or maintaining systems
• Collaborating with Application Performance Monitoring team members to help troubleshoot issues or assist in rapid deployment of equipment where appropriate
• Assist in managing the Load Balancer configuration and operation as required
• Performing rack installation, patching of equipment and updating SCIDA documentation as required
• Interfacing with 3rd party hardware vendors to arrange support or part replacement as required
• Maintaining relevant interfaces with other delivery partners, including Exchange GAL export and transfer of data extracts for the CMDB
• Maintaining up-to-date Reference build platforms
• Providing development and training environments
• Design, build and operate aspects of the Iaas (VxRail/VMware cloud foundation)
• Form part of the ongoing service delivery team focusing on Storage and Orchestration of capacity and backup.
• Diagnose client issues, undertake investigative work using tooling and recommend solutions
• Technical pre-sales work, attending meetings, designing, documenting and presenting solutions
• Assisting colleagues in the completion of projects, to meet deadlines and client expectations
• Undertake project requirements gathering, and produce lower-level project design documentation
• Prepare, implement and decommission appropriate equipment & tools for analysis projects, including laptops & servers with relevant monitoring software
• Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, based on the report findings
• Investigation of new software technologies in a lab environment
• Maintaining an up to date knowledge of changes in IT
Senior Infrastructure Engineer Requirements / Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and expertise.
• 10 years of working with High Availability Systems Infrastructure
• Good experience with Enterprise infrastructure platforms, mainly VMWare ESXi, vSphere, vMotion, virtual switches, Windows Server 2008 / 2012, Active Directory & WSUS patching and McAfee ePO anti-virus management
• Knowledge of other enterprise Infrastructure systems such as SQL Server & replication, Exchange, Cisco & Dell switches, Dell blade server technology, iDRAC & SANs
• Hands on experience of leading IT infrastructure implementation projects to include Virtualisation, Network and SAN Storage infrastructure
• Experience with backup / business continuity tools such as Veeam & Backup Exec
• Experience in working across multiple security domains
• Team player who can adapt to changing priorities in workload
• Proactive, with strong attention to detail
• Adaptable and able to learn the use of new tools
• Troubleshooting experience and packet analysis
• Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux servers
• Demonstrated ability to produce technical documentation
• Industry qualifications
