The Senior Health Physicist role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Senior Health Physicist will make

As a Senior Health Physicist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will further develop on your diverse range of skills to help us support the delivery and ensure we continue to maintain our high standards of radiation protection into the future for existing and new submarine maintenance support facilities.

Day to day, you'll carry out the provision of radiation and environmental protection advice, helping to ensure our compliance with statutory regulations, such as the Ionising Radiations Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations and REPPIR. You'll problem solve and generate solutions in response to emergent radiation protection emergent issues and support the planning and design for future facilities/operations.

Essential experience

We will consider applicants from a range of operational and technical Health Physics backgrounds, including those who are new to the industry. However, the following experience and training would be beneficial:
Chartered Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP) with the Membership of the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP), or working towards this
Science degree in Radiation Protection, or significant relevant radiation protection experience and either a Science, Engineering and Mathematics degree
Provision of Health Physics advice in an operational environment
Demonstrable technical/scientific writing experience
Experience of radiation protection modelling software
This will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) and NNPPI clearance. You must be a British National.
