Marine Engineering & SystemsThe Senior Design Engineer role is based within our Marine Engineering & Systems groupBabcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. We have built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate and have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting exports of frigates the engineering team is actively working on other ship newbuild and life extension programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers.
The role
The difference our new Senior Design Engineer will makeAs a Senior Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll support both in-service and complex ship design programmes whilst helping to lead a team of junior engineers in developing system designs throughout the lifecycle process.
Day to day, you'll be responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating Marine and Mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support. You'll contribute and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support to our key customers, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs. You'll have subject knowledge of an aspect of Marine/Mechanical engineering (Power and Propulsion designs, Auxiliary Ship Systems and/or HVAC system designs). You'll also provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.

Essential experience- Degree qualified or HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with strong experience in a relevant field.
- Experience of marine engineering in at minimum one of the three key areas; Power and Propulsion, Auxiliary Systems and/or HVAC.
- Experience in appropriate analytical software such as FEA, CFD and/or CAD would be advantageous
- Member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.)
- Holding Chartered or Incorporated status, or have a clear route to be able to obtain
- Either already UK Security cleared or able for achieve UK SC clearance
