The Senior Business Analyst supports aspects of the analysis, change, and implementation of Digital change across Thames Water. This role will work closely with all areas of IT and their business domain to make sure that digital change is aligned to business demands.
The Lead Business Analyst has a good domain knowledge and understanding of Business Capability in the Thames Water business areas they support and works on anything from a small/low complex delivery to significant and/or highly complex initiatives. They actively mentor more junior Business Analysts and own key stakeholder relationships across Thames Digital and across the end to end change lifecycle. They are a key leader in the BA community.
You will have demonstrable experience of business analysis, with expertise in leading analysis activities, task managing and coaching teams of Business Analysts across a range of change initiatives. You will be responsible for advising, assessing and maintaining the solutioning and inflight view for their portfolio of projects, and support the Lead BA (Portfolio) in validating and quantifying the BA resource demand prior to allocation and throughout the lifecycle of the change initiative.
In addition, this position will contribute to the BA transformation agenda; consulting with the BA Practice Manager and Leads in Excellence and Innovation; overseeing the delivery and helping to embed the Business Analysis overall strategy in the short and long term. The role will be expected to liaise with the Lead BA, Programme Manager(s) and other key Senior Stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
Know Your Customer: Able to effectively engage with multiple stakeholder groups and build trusted relationships. You will be adept at influencing stakeholders and managing relationships effectively. Build long term strategic relationships and communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders. You will be able to represent and business needs and solution direction.
Inform assignment allocation of BAs: Responsible for assuring usage of BAs on initiatives and advising on the need for more/less BA time allocation to an initiative.
Manage the pipeline of initiatives: Responsible for supporting the business to understand its potential requirements pre-Business Change Board and support development of Thames Digital ideas through feasibility to the end of initiation. (TPDF stage 0 and stage 1). Actively define the business need to an appropriate level, sufficient to support a decision on whether to proceed beyond the solutioning stage.
Task & line management of BAs: Accountable for solution artefacts for each initiative within their portfolio of works, conduct appropriately regular progress reviews, act as escalation point and facilitate remediation, provide guidance to BAs on the end to end change lifecycle, Quality Assure BA work and document outputs feeding into the Leads for Excellence and Innovation by way of regular performance feedback, quarterly as a minimum.
What will this role involve?
Actively promoting collaboration across the solutioning and delivery teams in order to optimise business outcomes within Thames Water.
The role is heavily focused on customer care and you must have the ability to tailor approach to meet the client's expectations. It is imperative to develop an understanding of the business needs within Thames Water and have the ability to open up new opportunities through value added analysis.
You will be responsible for investigative work into problems and opportunities in existing and new services. Drive the analysis and collection of information and recommend way forward on improvement initiatives.
You will determine the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes and support others to decide the best approach. You will be able to help stakeholders to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise your work and the work of BAs in your team, and work to agreed minimum viable product (MVP). For change initiatives, facilitate setting of analysis priorities, lead on elicitation of high and detailed level requirements and takes responsibility for delivery of solutioning phase.
You will lead others to innovate in their work as well as innovating in your own.
You will direct business analysis including the elicitation of information and evidence, identification of problems and opportunities and ensure recommendations fit with strategic business objectives throughout the lifecycle of the project.
You will be responsible for the scope, plan and time estimate of Business Analysis outputs in respect of the inflight phase of each project assignment including total effort required considering tasks such as as-is/to-be analysis, process re-engineering, stakeholder engagement, high and low level requirements.
You will have Oversight of assigned Business Analysis teams, comprising several different types of analyst, including full-time employee, partner organisation and day rate contractor (freelance) resource.
You will ensure the production of Business Analysis deliverables to Thames Digital defined quality standards, in accordance with the objectives of a project or programme team manager.
You will engage key stakeholders early and throughout the entire project life-cycle from project inception and start-up through to project closure. Proactively and constructively challenges the business putting the customer at the heart of the design.
You will ensure that all organisational stakeholders (such as Information Security, Data Protection, Architecture, service delivery etc.) are represented and that areas of contention / requirement conflict are resolved. You will be accountable for the management of risk in respect of analysis deliverables and the overall requirements position of a project or programme assignment.
You will act as the escalation point for BAs in small and medium sized projects and other project stakeholders for all Business Analysis activities and deliverables, facilitating discussions to agree a common understanding and resolution, flagging as appropriate to the Lead Business Analyst (Portfolio) for resolution and remedial action planning. You will have the ability to adapt to evolving and changing needs. Proactive, resourceful and have the ability to work under your own initiative and the ability to manage a varied workload in an efficient and timely manner.
You will share good practice, feeding back innovation to the Business Analysis Practice Manager for consideration as part of the BA Tool Kit and/or framework and will have an inclusive leadership style with the ability to coach and mentor others and develop their performance. You will exercise and demonstrate your expertise in the practice of Business Analysis, in both Agile and traditional environments.
You will have a flexible approach to working with and shaping a range of different delivery methodologies across the Agile-Waterfall spectrum and a understanding of the business, its culture, and its domain i.e. understanding the organisational structure, its vision and objectives, resources, output, and the framework in which it operates.
You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of the practice and a through-life, evolutionary requirements process. Helping lead the adoption of agile principles practices and cultural changes to improve how Thames Water delivers change across the organisation. You will work with the Business Analysis Practice Manager to evolve and grow the capability and remit of the Business Analysis Practice, demonstrating your passion for continuous improvement and service excellence, while providing performance feedback on all assigned BAs to the Line Manager.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
- Essentially, we are looking for someone who has a number of years’ experience of business analysis, process definition and analysis, and requirements definition and analysis; with 2 significant prior business analysis focussed roles.
- You will have a disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Good inter-personal skills and is confident in dealing with stakeholders and possess a broad understanding of business processes.
- You will need to demonstrable awareness of the uses of IS to deliver business outcomes.
- Technically, you will be proficient in information capture techniques, business analysis techniques, stakeholder management and business proposals.
