Job Description

You will be teaching Maths in a nurturing setting that has 18 pupils aged 6-17 (Middle school experience with both KS2 & KS3 would be fantastic). All have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and many will have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences and may have social care involvement. Central to this role will be your ability to really know the children, building positive relationships and motivating them with engaging learning opportunities, making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. This supportive ethos is reflected in the ratio of 1 staff member to 2 pupils.

Your leaders make you part of the decision making that drives the school and welcome your input in developing both the academic curriculum and the opportunities in the extra-curricular offer – giving you a chance to bring your own interests and passions to the table. You are given fantastic resources including robust and meaningful schemes of work and high-quality supplies to bring your ideas to life.

As well as this, you have an extensive and meaningful induction, therapeutic training, and professional qualification opportunities. Most of the senior leadership within the trust have been internally promoted, demonstrating the prospect of progression with this role. A staff laptop, mobile phone and benefits package are standard within this community of forward-thinking schools.

This provision is based in Wiltshire and has a mix of residential and day places and is recruiting a permanent Maths teacher (QTS) to join its expanding team. You will be teaching Maths alongside other subjects to pupils who need lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.

You need to be able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours and be resilient and solution focused in order to meet the needs of the children. However, you are not alone! There is a strong community of professionals to lean on including a responsive and experienced SLT, SENCOs, programme psychologists, therapeutic professionals and pastoral leads. This means you can focus on what is important: differentiation, personalisation and bespoke, quality first teaching in small, nurturing classes.

This is an exciting permanent opportunity for a SEN Maths Teacher (QTS) to join a brand new provision for September 2022. The role is commutable from Bath, Warminster, Frome, Stourton, Chippenham, Westbury, Warminster, Tidworth, Devizes.

To be successful in your application, you should have the following:

Hold a relevant UK teaching qualification
Experience within the SEN sector, ideally within an SEMH setting
Willing to travel or be local to the Wiltshire area

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Salary: £26,500 to £39,000.

Closing date: 04.05.22 at 9am

Interview date: TBC

Due to Covid-19 a flexible interview process is in place for this role. A video meeting with a Smile Education representative will be arranged for applicants as a first stage interview.
