Job Description

SEMH Teaching Assistant
£70+ per day
KS4 PRU
Full time position, Monday to Friday
To Start January
OFSTED rated GOOD
Location: HackneyCentrally based, this Hackney pupil referral unit (PRU) caters for Primary and Secondary aged pupils in the borough of Hackney.

We are looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant with strong emotional intelligence, good academic backgrounds and dynamic, engaging personalities. Working in a PRU requires resilience and exceptional relationship building skills. Every day will be different and your success in the role will depend on your ability to form strong working relationships with pupils. Education and training in Psychology, Counselling and Youth Work are highly desired but not essential.

Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) are locally funded schools set up to ensure students who have fallen outside mainstream and SEN provisions still receive an education. This could be due to exclusion from mainstream or be due to illness. The education and training offered to students is adapted to suit each individual child's needs. The SEMH Teaching Assistant will play a vital role with 1:1 support and small group interventions.

The SEMH Teaching Assistant will be working with pupils in KS4. The Key Stage 4 Provision recently opened in September last year and they are based in a new building. At present there are 2 small, year 11 classes, one with 5 pupils and the other with 4 pupils. There is also a Year 10 class with 8 pupils. These small classes also enable social distancing measures to be upheld. Breaks are also staggered which reduces congestion in hallways. The school day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 4pm, with staff meetings until 4.30pm on Wednesday.
