Job Description

Pertemps Scotland Ltd are working with our client in central Edinburgh to recruit for a Security Officer/Reception on a temporary basis for around 3 months. The role is part time and the rate of pay is £9.95 per hour

The Job
To open the building at the start of the day, secure the premises at close of working day and provide cover on Reception desk to ensure the security of the building and its users.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide cover on Reception desk by checking staff ID badges, issuing temporary badges and signing visitors in and out of the building
  • When opening the building, clear alarms switch on designated lights, ensure heating is on when required and provide cover at the reception desk
  • Secure exit doors and set intruder alarm before leaving the building
  • When closing the building, ensure all windows and doors are closed and lights extinguished during inspection of the building, ensuring that the building is vacated and secure before leaving
  • Check all fire doors on a regular basis and assist the Senior Facilities Officer with fire drills and fire evacuations
  • Take deposits to the bank and deliver recorded deliveries to the post office
  • Ensure that cleaning staff sign in on arrival and out on departure, checking that sign in times are correct. Ensure that no unauthorised person enters the building
  • Monitor cleaning operations and liaise with cleaners with regard to any issues which cannot wait until the following day. Report any unsatisfactory work performance to supervisor the following day
  • Report all breaches in security and defects which affect health and safety
  • Provide relief cover on switchboard when required
  • Undertake any other routine tasks to assist the Facilities team e.g. routine maintenance tasks such as weed killing, restocking drinks cups or filling soap dispensers
  • Undertake any special projects as instructed by supervisor or Manager

Working Pattern

25 hours per week worked over four days on a two-weekly cycle basis. The weekly contractual core hours of work will alternate each week as follows:

Week 1
6 hours 15 minutes a day between 6.30am and 1.15pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week, with an unpaid break of 30 minutes each day.

Week 2
6 hours 15 minutes a day between 1pm and 7.45pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week, with an unpaid break of 30 minutes each day.

Essential Criteria
The following competencies are key to performing the job successfully:-
  • Previous security experience - police, fire or prison service experience highly advantageous or security work within a business/office environment
  • Proven experience involving responsibility and trustworthiness
  • Current valid First Aid Certificate (or willingness to undertake this once in post)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work alone or within team, if required
  • Ability to use common sense and make straightforward decisions
  • Willingness to perform duties accurately and conscientiously
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • NB Applicants must have a recent (last 12 months) Standard clearance from Disclosure Scotland - either at the application stage, or following a conditional offer of employment.
