Exciting things are happening within Thames Water and the water industry in general and this is the perfect opportunity to join us on our journey. Thames Water is at the forefront of the wholesale retail market and we are looking for a dynamic leader to manage our wholesale revenue environment within our Wholesale Market Services (WMS) business area.
WMS is required to develop, implement and facilitate the delivery of Thames Waters’ Market obligations. We enable the sale of services to all companies licensed to operate in the Water Markets, this equates to over £400m of revenue that is managed within the team. As well as managing up to approximately £200m of risk associated with market compliance.
This is a brand new role and a unique opportunity to play a major part in shaping and driving this process, creating revenue and insight for the business. We will provide you with all the tools you need to grow within the business and embark on a successful career with Thames Water.
If you have a background in the water industry then fantastic, but if you don’t, it’s not a problem – you may have instead worked in the utilities industry, power generation, telecoms, or from a consultancy background. If you are highly skilled in financial reporting and model building, demand forecasting and budgeting then this could be the role for you.
With a salary of up to £70,000, car allowance and bonus up to 20% plus a whole raft of additional benefits, you will find this a highly attractive move in your career.
As part of your role you will be expected to:
Budget, report and reforecast metered volumes, revenue and cash receipts and ensure effective processes and controls are in place to ensure financial numbers are robust and auditable at all times, and month end reporting runs smoothly and meets the needs of key stakeholders.
Ensure all market settlement runs are validated and key settlement deltas and settlement drivers are monitored, and their financial impact understood.
Take appropriate action to address material business process, reporting, data and settlement issues identified for the purposes of improving revenue outcomes.
Continuously improve metered demand forecasting capability and lead the improvement of existing and development new demand forecasting tool to maintain effective financial control.
Manage and maintain effective credit risk and late payment/default controls, processes and escalation plans to ensure TWUL carries the lowest possible bad debt risk.
Lead and manage a team to meet all required targets and ensure effective resource forecasting, performance and development and recruitment plans are in place.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
- 5 years of revenue reporting and/or revenue operations experience, ideally in a market environment.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills - with the ability to provide reporting and assurance of revenue and cash performance and their underlying drivers.
- Experience of budgeting and reforecasting and operating volumetric forecasting tools and developing and or specifying requirements and tools to gain greater insight.
- Highly attuned stakeholder management skills – with the ability to influence at executive level.
- The ideal candidate will have a background in financial reporting and forecasting with experience of demand/forecasting models backed up with accounting qualifications and experience.
- Accounting qualifications are not essential.
