The role
As a Project Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Babcock supports Network Rail and other rail industry customers in providing a safe, reliable and efficient rail network across Great Britain.
Day to day, you'll ensure all engineering activities in connection with the tender, design and implementation of project work are co-ordinated and technically compliant to Client and Company Standards and the scope of works. Identify any changes to scope, price and programme and initiate change requests as required. Act as the main engineering point of contact on allocated projects. Work as an integral part of the project and engineering team.
Act as a Systems CRE or Project Engineer on allocated schemes as required and where deemed competent to do so. Allocated works may be on Network Rail, Translink or other infrastructure.
Act as engineering contact and liaison with team members, clients and sub-contractors in order to resolve any technical issues.
Act as a Design Engineer (for specific Systems Designs), responsible for the production and checking of design details associated with Systems work. Monitor design errors and make recommendations to stop re-occurrence.
Preparation of specifications, reports, schematics, estimates and working drawings for Systems work within the project team to meet laid down timescales and authorised expenditure constraints.
Ensure the application and implementation of all established standards and specifications for regulatory, company, Network Rail, and statutory principles.
Production, checking and issue of specifications, schematics, diagrams and working drawings to confirm the scope of works/quality of product and enable construction work to take place within the prescribed timescale.
Liaise with Project Manager/Client to ascertain project requirements and understand project remit.
Work closely with Project Manager ensuring all cost targets are met.
Manage the technical and engineering elements of any sub-contractors delivering work packages for allocated schemes.
Ensure that changes to scope and specifications are managed, issues are raised and that risk registers are robustly reviewed.
Provide engineering support to the preparation of commercial variations and any supporting information during allocated schemes.
Preparation of Work Package Plans, Task Briefings and Risk Assessments.
Undertake site surveys.
Keep accurate records of project documentation and maintain project H&S files.
Carry out safety and quality inspections.
Essential experience of the Project Engineer,
Minimum of 3 years' experience in Signalling project delivery work.
Good leadership qualities.
Competent or willing to learn design & data production techniques for Systems infrastructure.
You must hold a full UK Driver's License.
This role is a full-time position at 35 hours per week and offers hybrid working from site, office and home. Due to the nature of this role, there will be a requirement to work away from home or out of hours at times throughout the UK and Ireland,
Qualifications for the Project Engineer,
Appropriate educational and technical qualification e.g. HNC/HND/Degree.
Working towards IRSE Licence holder in an appropriate category
