Job Description


The Production Manager will assist in the planning, organisation and oversee the coordination of efficient work flow in all areas of responsibility to achieve daily output with the assistance of the relevant production supervisor.

The position will ensure Quality standards are achieved and maintained in line with company quality systems as well as ensuring Health and Safety at work is maintained and improved.

Responsible for the management and development of labour within area of responsibility.


- Liaising with planning department developing production plans and transport schedules to achieve output targets and delivery objectives.

- Oversee the planning of galvanising schedules with the relevant supervisor and liaising with suppliers, logistics and Gateway despatch department to ensure correct timely material movements, correct quantities and kitting of components is achieved maintaining good communications throughout.

- Liaising with purchasing department to ensure material availability when required is in time for manufacture for all areas of responsibility.

- Monitoring of material stock levels working alongside Production Supervisors and Goods In operatives.

- Working with Production Supervisors to ensure production targets are achieved.

- Contingency planning should there be any shortfalls in production.

- Ensure Production Supervisors, Despatch Coordinator and Goods In operatives receive relevant works instructions i.e. job packs, production plans/schedules, delivery schedules and any other requirements and all are kept informed of any changes to production.

- Implementation of standard operating procedures to improve process efficiency, outputs and reduce margin of error.

- To hold daily production meetings with supervisors to review and plan.

- Working alongside production supervision and HR department on labour allocation, including monitoring of absence.

- Budgetary management of labour and overheads.

- Organisation of site work to be carried out.

- Assume responsibility for work carried out on customer’s sites, liaising with such customers if required to build strong working relationships.

- Promote a ‘can do’ attitude to activities/problems which may arise.

- Encourage individuals to participate and communicate.

- Make the processes simple, predicable and reliable and actively promote continuous improvement.

- Communicate importance of coordination of materials to ensure smooth material flow from delivery to build.

- Actively participate in daily senior management meetings.


-Interim inspection of products, fabrication, welding and paint finishes.

- Oversee 1st off recorded checks are completed and correctly filed.

- Provide pro-active input into the upkeep of the company CAR procedure.

- Monitoring of company quality systems relating to production/despatch.

- To implement and promote a pro-active approach to any problems during the manufacturing process or with quality in general.

- Driving continual improvement of quality and systems.

Health & Safety

- Ensure SSOW, risk assessments and tool box talks are in place, displayed and communicated for working practices used, working closely with Health and Safety Officer and Supervision.

- Organisation of maintenance and checks of plant and equipment through maintenance department.

- Ensuring a clean, tidy and organised workplace is maintained and that the relevant housekeeping audits are completed on a weekly basis.

- Ensure safe working practices and procedures are being followed and address any failure in compliance.

- Ensure internal awareness training on machine and manufacturing processes is carried out referring to SSOW’s, RA’s, Tool box talks and SOP’s.

- Assist Supervision and team leaders in monitoring good communication and working relationships with the production personnel.


- Encourage individuals to participate and communicate.

- Ensure individuals know what is expected of them giving positive feedback when due.

- Development and promotion of team working culture.

- Identification of training and development requirements for personnel liaising with relevant departments to plan and organise such requirements.

- Adhering to disciplinary and grievance procedure, formal stage disciplinary hearing.

- Identification of additional/replacement manpower requirements.

- Conflict resolution.

- To monitor, allocate and manage overtime.
