Production Engineering Manager

An interesting and unique position has become available for a Production Engineering Manager to work with an important client who are globally respected for being at the forefront of their field within the electronic engineering field based in the Milton Keynes area.

As Production Engineering Manager you will be reporting to the Operations Manager and overseeing a team of Production and Process Engineering staff (6 heads), based in Milton Keynes with the potential for some travel to customers and other locations as necessary you will be responsible for the following:

The Production Engineering Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the Production Engineering team and establishing and delivering agreed Continuous Improvement plans to drive the MK Productivity Funnel.

Continuous Improvement and Production Engineering
*Responsible for establishing measures for current state of key products and business processes, and defining improvement activities focussed on achieving agreed productivity targets
*Head cross-functional CI teams to drive process change, monitoring and reporting CI project progress
*Day-to-day Management of the Production Engineering team to ensure all key tasks within the group are covered, ensuring equipment and processes are maintained to support manufacturing targets, and development projects have required Production Engineering input
*Manage Production Engineering input into new product designs ensuring a focus on manufacturability, and control the transition of new products into manufacturing ensuring TMC objectives are delivered
*Conduct capital expenditure projects to justify, identify, purchase and introduce new equipment into the manufacturing facility
*Highlight areas of equipment weakness that present a risk to business and detail mitigation plans
*Provide guidance for microelectronics manufacturing processes, ensuring team track external developments and identify new techniques for exploitation by the business
*Hold and chair CI meetings and progress reviews as required

*To prepare and present project status at the Monthly Senior Management meeting detailing objectives, progress to date, future activity and timelines risks and opportunities and mitigating actions.
*Present Overview of CI activity for the MK site at the Quarterly all hands brief.
*Present the Productivity Funnel at the monthly Vertical Review.

Product & Customer
*A detailed knowledge of the company's products
*Understand the contractual obligations with respect to product configuration for each customer and possess the ability to communicate to customers the rationale behind any proposed changes to product configuration arising from CI activity.

Leadership & Behavioural
*Ability to explain complex issues to non specialists, and to gain acceptance of optimum solutions through sound arguments and intellectual reasoning.
*Ability to work across all levels of the organisation, and able to present to large and diverse audiences
*To Manage and motivate the Project Teams
*To be assertive in driving issue resolutions whilst recognising and being inclusive of differing view points

Commercial & Financial
*Ensure revenue and profitability are maximised by identifying, measuring and eliminating waste in all its forms throughout the business.
*Establish appropriate baselines and measures to quantify improvement activities
*Assist in the generation of RFQ's by providing cost inputs and schedules
*Understanding of Legal Contracts and NDA's
*Generate business case/payback justifications for capital expenditure
*Update the Senior Management team with project status and realised productivity gains.

Skills & Competencies
Good level of IT literacy, with competence in MS Office and other statistical software packages.
Numerically literate with good understanding of how to quantify and measure costs, margins and improvements
*Ability to understand the wider business processes and how they impact overall
*In depth experience of managing CI projects and New Product Introductions.
*Experience of managing multi disciplined teams including Process and Production Engineers, third party stakeholders and other internal functions
*Experience of managing projects through all phases of the lifecycle, with good planning and organisational skills
*Good written skills and ability to communicate cohesively and succinctly with all levels within the organisation and with Customers and Suppliers
*Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of 6 sigma LEAN manufacturing techniques.
*Detailed knowledge of microelectronic manufacturing processes
*Detailed understanding of RF & microwave products and technology
*Clean driving license
*Ability to obtain appropriate security clearances
*Attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to recognise critical issues is key to the role
*Ensure that all Environmental, Health and Safety & Other Company polices are adhered to all times other locations may be required.
