Job Description

Main duties & responsibilities

As Principal Technical Officer you will be responsible for preparation of materials and equipment for commercial clients as required in one or more areas of the School. This will mainly involve support for specialist techniques in the manufacture of parts and material preparation for clients in the University Enterprise Zone and occasional support in other areas within the School. Furthermore, you will be required to liaise with Estates and contractors regarding management and maintenance of the demonstration and experimental areas for clients and occasionally the undergraduate and post graduate students and ensuring that the work undertaken is in line with the School requirements. 

 

Skills and experience needed

You must be able to manage a technical team to provide technical support for commercial clients, teaching and research activity within the laboratories run by the School. To assist in the further developments of equipment and facilities within the School technical labs and workshops. Coordination of planned activities across the satellite areas and labs linked to the UEZ hub.

 

Proven professional experience of working in a client facing environment and/or with students in FE or HE sector. Substantial proven experience and skills required in some or all the following: prototype build, concept part assembly, CAD and CAM. Experience of manufacturing high precision metal/plastic parts would be desirable. Be able to be client facing for the UEZ Hub activities and events.

 

Qualifications required

A minimum of a recognised qualification in an appropriate subject at degree or HNC/HND level or equivalent.
