The Principal Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the deep maintenance facility for the UK submarine fleet.

The Role

The difference our new Principal Engineer will make:

As such, you'll be part of a significant programme of infrastructure investment and development that is required on the Devonport site to meet the needs of the future MOD ship and submarine programmes. The team are upgrading an existing dock to meet modern standards and support the Astute Deep Maintenance Programme (ADMP).

Day to day, you'll lead and manage mechanical handling design packages for the 10 Dock Facility ensuring Requirements are met through the design process; whilst also, managing deliverables through the Babcock Design and Governance processes to ensure quality and consistency. Furthermore, you'll be responsible for providing guidance and mentorship, to the team and assisting with their continued development.

Essential experience
Demonstratable experience of designing conventional mechanical handling equipment to support production activities.
Ideally, knowledge of crane design and experience of requirements substantiation.
Knowledge of lifting techniques and, process within a facility based production environment.
A Degree in a relevant discipline and ideally, Chartered Membership of an appropriate Institution.
You will need to satisfy security requirements and be eligible/ capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
