Thames Water is at the forefront of the wholesale retail market and the inter wholesale market, known as the New Appointments and Variations market (NAV). We are looking for a dynamic leader to manage relationships with our retail partners and just as importantly our service performance to them within our WMS (Wholesale Market Services) business area.
WMS is required to develop, implement and facilitate the delivery of Thames Waters’ Market obligations. We enable the sale of services to all companies licensed to operate in the Water Markets, this equates to over £400m of revenue that is managed within the team. As well as managing up to approximately £200m of risk associated with market compliance.

The Planning Manager is a key role, responsible for supporting the function heads and their teams to achieve the goals of WMS through the efficient administration of WMS and its planning and communication streams. A key conjugate for cross functional working in a fast paste customer focused commercially astute organisation which is always having to adapt and change to meet customer and market needs and achieve approximately a fifth of Thames Water’s revenue.
As part of your role you will be expected to:
Produce and maintain Planning and Communication Strategies and plans for the operational BAU, including objectives and project plans and report progress on a monthly basis to the Head of WMS and Function Head population.
Facilitate the capture and review of risks and issues onto the Risk Register. This includes: facilitating senior management meetings to review the register, capturing, disseminating and following up on all actions. Ensuring all documents are stored appropriately on SharePoint with the Risk Register, session attendance register, notes and action log.
Facilitate the weekly operational and planning meetings, record, disseminate and follow up on all actions.
Provide management support to ensure that WMS remains flexible and capable of performing/ delivering in an evolving market/ operational environment including its budgeting and forecasting activities.
Directly deliver internal and external communication including weekly reports, publications and all team events.
Support the planning and management of key function events such as customer and stakeholder visits e.g. from Retailers, NAVs, Ofwat and MOSL.
Own and report on the recruitment process, the headcount, FTE and vacancy phasing.
Support WMS and Thames with office management.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
- A highly organised individual with exposure to projects, strong planning experience and a proven record of working with stakeholders.
- A personable character with strong, networking, negotiation, influencing and communication skills.
- Passionate about the role and where we are headed as a business, this will be reflected in your flexibility and willingness to get involved in the various and ad hoc tasks that fall within this remit.
- Proficient in MS Office programmes with the ability to present and be comfortable working in a busy environment with ever changing priorities.
- Working within a technical or operational environment would be advantageous.
