Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Midlands, Permanent

In these extraordinary times of the coronavirus outbreak telent is continuing to Recruit. We provide services to customers which are integral to providing mission critical systems and infrastructure across the UK and Ireland and we need to continue to deliver those services.

Highways England have awarded telent the contract for the operation and management of NRTS (National Roads Telecommunication Services), a critical component of national infrastructure supporting the country's 4,400 mile strategic road network. This contract will provide an end-to-end managed service to build, maintain, and modernise the network.

To be considered for this role you will need to be based in and around the Midlands area.

What will I be doing?

* Maintenance of cabinets, cable and termination, Commissioning and Testing Equipment on fibre and copper cable networks on the Highways England, National Roads Telecommunications Service networks;
* Repairing any Fibre or Copper Cable break;
* Attending any equipment issue within the Transmission Buildings roadside Cabinets within your area;
* Working on various size schemes where there are specific timescales and a requirement to work in conjunction and collaboratively with other stakeholders and third parties;
* Ensuring all work in carried out in accordance with Telent Environmental, Health and Safety processes and policies;

Typical Deliverables:

* Cable locating using cable detection equipment;
* Attending cable breaks and repair breaks on copper and fibre cables to keep the network working;
* Install temporary link cables to get services working;
* Undertaking manual work including manual trenching cable laying etc…;
* Working nights & weekends if required on callout. (This is part of any agreed shift pattern);
* Attending any equipment issue within Transmission Buildings and Roadside Cabinets within your area day or night;
* Working away from their home area, where reimbursement for accommodation etc... will be in accordance with the company policies and procedures (This may be part of any shift pattern, and may be required from time to time);
* Undertaking general Maintenance and Commissioning of equipment and testing on all fibre and copper (armoured/un-armoured) INT/EXT cables, equipment and cabling;
* Ensure all Commissioning of equipment is completed to the correct standard then delivered on time and to budget;
* Work on any telent contracts as directed;
* To complete all aspects of Maintenance work to the required standard;
* Work overtime or callout when the contract requires;
* Completion of all the associated documentation required as part of the task, on time;
* Production of detailed reports when required;
* Prepared to positively participate in all training relevant to the position;
* Ensure that all work undertaken is done in accordance with telent's, QEHS processes.

What we are looking for from you:

*Experience working Telecommunication environment;
*Experience carrying out fibre splicing and copper jointing;
*Experience of Telecommunication networks
*Experience using test equipment ie OTDR
