Vacancy Overview

The primary role of the COVID-19 Technician/Nurse is to safely and correctly administer a nasopharangeal and oropharangeal swab test to key workers who are working at the site, to operate the testing machine and to support the overall testing process.

Training will be provided both in the administration of the swab and in the operation of the testing machine.

During periods when active testing is not required, the COVID-19 Technician/Nurse will be expected to undertake routine Occupational Health work according to the sites requirements

Principal Accountabilities

The applicant will be expected to support the work of the Occupational Health department when not testing. This may include:

Collection of clinical data & function measurements including calibration check of equipment, clinical measurements, clinical history taking & recording results.
Undertaking basic health screening, recording test results appropriately and recognising requirement to refer to a health care professional.
Ensure relevant company standards & legal requirements for health screening are complied with.
Undertaking routine Drug & Alcohol testing including appropriate handling of clinical waste-packaging & labelling sample to legal standards and thorough knowledge of collection procedures, urine and breath sampling - training will be provided.
Assist in the maintenance of Ionizing Radiation medicals -Obtain dose and sickness records for Appointed Doctor, understand Health Record cards and provision of documents for Appointed Dr's use
Awareness of process for dealing with Mental Health issues at location in line with Mental Health Standard. Provide listening/counselling service to staff
Identify individuals who require further investigation by Occupational Health Adviser.
Have an awareness of manual handling / ergonomics in the workplace and be able to identify and refer any associated health issues.
Awareness of PPE required for own role and PPE used at location including advice on PPE for individuals with health issues.
Demonstrates an awareness of the nature & concepts of Occupational Health and awareness of relevant legislation and of the locations H&S arrangements.
Creates opportunities for staff to communicate & seek advice
Actively helps to initiate, plan and facilitate health & safety

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

Essential Qualifications

As a minimum entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualification standards (or equivalent). Candidates with these qualifications that include "4" and above grade passes in English and Mathematics will have an advantage
An appropriate Occupational First Aid Qualification.
Registered General Nurse (RGN)
Allied Health Care Professional.

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to maintain medical confidentiality
Experience working with members of the public/patients.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a supportive nature .
Ability to physically stand for several hours with good mobility.
Commitment to the work and adherence to the strict guidelines and procedures required.
Native or bilingual proficiency level English.
Experience working in a medical, clinical, laboratory or health or social care environment.
You must be over 18 and in general good health. You must not be classified as belonging to any of the COVID-19 increased risk groups (more detail can be found on the government website).
Training and full personal protective equipment will be provided.
Experience of data entry and record keeping.
