The role

As a Nuclear Repair Welder, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. As the Ministry of Defence's commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.

Day to day, you'll carry out welding activities within our Nuclear Repair business unit , to support Fleet Engineering delivery.
Carry out welding activities as directed using MMA and TIG welding where appropriate
Repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all Royal Naval and other vessels as required
Using your skills and experience in welding and fabrication you will be providing key services in the repair of nuclear plant and structures

Essential experience of the Nuclear Repair Welder,
You will demonstrate previous welding experience, including significant experience of pipe welding
Experience of MMA process and proficient at TIG welding on small-bore pipework encompassing Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels and Copper Nickels
Previous experience of working with maintenance technical instructions, welding procedures and acceptance standards
Experience of utilising Work to Risk, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work
Experience of FCAW and mechanised welding would be advantageous

That the role holder must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces

Hours of work will be Monday to Thursday - 8.05am to 4.45pm and Friday 8.05am to 12.05pm

Qualifications for the Nuclear Repair Welder,
You will hold a recognised fabrication/welding Apprenticeship to N/SVQ Level 3 or HNC and above in a fabrication/welding discipline with industry experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
