By joining our team at Lucknow Barracks in Tidworth, you'll get the opportunity to run an exciting and unique Mess function (this is a large combined mess supporting two units).with the added bonus of not having to work regular unsocial hours such as frequent split shifts, weekends and evenings  Our role offers you this with the core hours being Monday to Friday with some evening and weekends when necessary to support the team and be the face to the client during major functions

You will promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team - ensuring standards of
service are achieved, maintained and developed

Competitive salary of £22,000-£23,500 plus benefits including bonus, pension, very popular group discount schemes, option to buy additional flexible benefits such as holidays, healthcare etc


Main responsibilities
  • Grow services in order to meet client and commercial expectations whilst maintaining strict budgetary control in line with client and Sodexo expectations
  • Demonstrate capabilities for the smooth running of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents, to plan, organise and coordinate all function activity.
  • Take responsibility for the day to day management, co-ordination and control of all Mess activity, as set out in the contract Schedule of Requirement (SOR) and operational manuals, across the designated contract and affiliated sites.
  • Ensure that the Mess adheres to all Health and Safety, COSHH and Food Safety regulations

Ideal candidate
  • Experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • Proven experience in hospitality sector including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards Able to analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions


  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Experience of working in a military environment
