About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Mechanical Test Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

As the Mechanical Test Engineer you'll work in the Crane and Refuel Equipment Maintenance section where you will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of maintenance work package, job plans and written test and commissioning procedures. You'll manage allocated work orders in MAXIMO and ensure all work is planned, released and closed out to avoid missed maintenance.

Using your experience gained in a similar role you'll manage the on-site task allocated team of industrial staff.

You'll also:

Set to work team giving a clear safety and work content brief prior starting work
Undertake Procedure Co-Ordinator duties for allocated tasks and carry out on site safety & supervision duties to ensure team are working in a safe and controlled manner and in accordance with issued job plans and documentation.
Represent CREMO at Procedure Authorisation Group ( PAG ) meetings and discussions
Support the Material Engineer Planning Engineer and FLMs as and when required
Assist the Training and Compliance Manager to develop the team to ensure all team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to safely undertake assigned work.What do I need to do the role?
You will have a minimum level 3 NVQ qualification in an engineering based subject.

We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:

Knowledge and experience of lifting equipment, specifically Cranes, control systems and fluid control systems.
Ability to work at height (i.e. on Cranes)
Ability to work in a nuclear environment
To have a strong Health & Safety ethos
Strong leadership and communication skills
IT LiterateWhat else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
