Job Description

Position : Plant Fitter, Plant Technician, Mechanical Fitter, HGV Technician, Motor Technician, Mechanical Technician 

Location: Scotland

The actual site is a quarry on an island in a remote area and is only accessible by private ferry. As such you will need to be away from home during your rostered hours. Food & accommodation is provided at the accommodation block on the island that hosts ensuite rooms, gym, sauna, canteen, games rooms etc. You can of course travel daily if preferred depending on location but will still need to use the private ferry. 

A driving licence and your own transport will be essential to get to the ferry terminal. Drive times to the ferry terminal are : -

  • 2 1/2 hours from Glasgow
  • 3 hours from Edinburgh
  • 3 hours from Dundee
  • 3 hours from Inverness
  • 4 hours from Aberdeen 

Shift Pattern :Very flexible. Examples include. 

  • 7 days on 7 days off (most people seem to prefer this one) 
  • Week 1: 5 on 2 off and then Week 2: 4 on 3 off
  • Primarily days, although rotating shifts of days and nights are also available with a shift premium in addition to salary (£1400 - £2,000)

Salary : £35-38,000 basic plus shifts, overtime

About the role :

You will be working on the service, repair and maintenance of heavy plant used in mining and quarrying such as excavators, dumpers, crushers etc.

About You :

Your military service will ideally include similar experience, maybe as part of REME or in working in a motor pool or similar. You will have worked on cars, LGVs, HGVs, tanks and other specialist mechanically biased equipment. 

You will competent working with motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, engines etc. You will happy working as part of a small close knit team who, by the nature of the role, work together and live together for extended periods of time.
