Job Type(s): Level 6 Apprenticeship Location(s): England: Haslar, Shoeburyness Salary: Competitive + benefits + bonus incentives Start date: September 2021 Job description: Mechanical Engineering The QinetiQ Mechanical Engineering discipline consists of around 300 engineers, scientists and technicians, working within three distinct Groups; Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering, Stress, Structures and Advanced Products and Design and Fabrication skill groups. Sites & roles: Haslar Our Haslar teams consist of Naval Architects, Designers, Marine and Maritime Engineers and Hydrodynamicists with capability in all aspects of surface ship and submarine platform concept design through to in-service support. This multidiscipline Group has specialisms in hydrodynamic testing and SMERAS (Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survivability) using both Haslar and international test facilities but also encompasses many transversal capabilities in structures, CFD, data analysis, requirements generation, noise and vibration, safety cases, trials and control systems. The role is to provide engineering support to trials activities covering hyperbaric engineering, submarine escape and rescue, diving and life support and the hydrodynamic facilities. Shoeburyness The teams at Shoeburyness are focused on the Environmental Test Centre (ETC). Our UKAS accredited ETC offers an entire suite of environmental testing of munitions for Land, Sea & Air, ranging across Dynamic Testing (Impact, Vibration and Drop), Climatic Testing (Hot and Cold environments, Immersion, Spray and sand conditions) and Radiographic Imagery. Outside of the UKAS accredited testing we also provide CT Scanning and Sectioning facilities. The role will be to lead set-up and conduct of environmental test programs, data processing, reporting and ensuring that customer deliverables meet the required standards.
