Mechanical Design Engineer



My client a Reading based manufacturer with an international presence is currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join them on a permanent basis. Candidates should have previous experience in Design for Manufacture particularly of complex electro-mechanical components.

The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of bespoke components, working to required specifications timescales and costs.

The responsibilities and functions of the Mechanical Design Engineer:

Undertake detailed design work on new and existing products in collaboration with relevant teams
Oversee the new products from quotation through to delivery, ensuring that the company achieves its targeted technical performance, costs and delivery time objectives.
To develop specifications for these products
To maintain standards and specifications issued by standard bodies, ie ISO, BSI, IEEE, etc.
Create detail drawings of designs, using the CAD system (Pro-Engineer and Autocad)
Create and maintain bills of materials and outline process detail on the MRP system in conjunction with Operations.
Modification of drawings on CAD and conventional media in accordance with the change request and approval system.
To discuss project and design requirements with customers and suppliers as necessary.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualification in Mechanical Engineering (ONC/D, HNC/D, Degree or similar) is required.
3D CAD design and technical drawing experience required.
Competent in using Microsoft Word, Project and Excel to an intermediate level required.
Knowledge of modern manufacturing methods is required.
Project management experience is desirable.
MRP experience in creating reviewing and updating BOMs is desirable.
A minimum of 3 years' experience working in an engineering environment (preferred).
