Job summary

As a Building Services Engineer in the Facilities Engineering team, you'll be providing the technical expertise to help develop the capabilities of mechanical services at our Devonport site that support the maintenance of Royal Navy ships and submarines. By doing so, you'll be helping to ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely.

Facilities Engineering

As a key partner to the Royal Navy, Babcock must be fully equipped to deliver complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes to help maintain national security. To this end, the Facilities Engineering unit is responsible for developing and managing the design of both new and existing facilities and equipment as the dockyard undergoes continuous development. As such, we are constantly growing and upskilling to rise to the challenge.

The role

You will act as technical authority for building services at Devonport, such as HVAC, domestic water, steam and condensate, local exhaust ventilation and industrial gases. You can make this role your own, while delivering a high standard of work, including:
Designing new & modified systems.
Backing up designs with documented arguments, analysis, and calculations.
Consulting on the condition of existing systems.
Updating design records to accurately reflect the equipment in service.
Ensuring that systems meet exacting standards, legislation and nuclear site license conditions.
Exchanging technical knowledge with other disciplines to ensure holistic design.

The role provides hybrid working arrangements with 1 day onsite and 4 days working from home.

Candidate Requirements
A Higher National Certificate or above in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience of documenting engineering arguments, analysis & calculations.
Technical knowledge of building services, such as:

o Heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC).

o Local exhaust ventilation (LEV).

o Industrial gases.

o Water.
