Overview:

Due to a planned period of leave, There is an urgent requirement for an immediately available CNC Machinist or Toolmaker in the Cambridge area to fill in for a 2 month period.

WORKSHOP MACHINIST/TOOLMAKER

The Machinist/Toolmaker uses machine tools to create custom metal and plastic parts with a high degree of accuracy within the research environment. They are also responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment used to produce goods.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reads and understands the specifications of engineering drawings for the work to be done and plans the steps to be taken to complete the project with in the given time scale.

Uses knowledge of available materials and the latest technologies to plan and select the material and tools to be used for the project.

Sets up and operates CNC machine tools that automatically mill, drill, ream or bore parts alongside manual operations.

Observes machine operation and verifies accuracy of machine operations against engineering drawings.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Working with a small group of engineers within the EDS team (Experimental Design & Support), you will report directly to the group leader. Communicating with scientific members within the lab to produce prototype custom parts for testing.


QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in machining general standard materials and specialised composites.

HNC or NVQ/Apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized training in specific aspects of job functions and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.

Experience of AutoCAD, CAD/CAM or CREO would be an advantage, but not essential as training can be provided.

CoSSH and H&S awareness.
