Job Description

Avantor Services provide a broad variety of on-site Laboratory Services for major pharmaceutical customers and work collaboratively with the client to provide resource to deliver core scientific activities.

This role is to support the AMB National NHS Screening Facility in central Cambridge where thousands of patient samples are to be tested for coronavirus each day. The lab is part of what will be the biggest network of diagnostic testing facilities in British history, testing samples from drive-through test sites across the country. This will support rapidly increasing the country’s capability to reach 250,000 coronavirus tests per day.

This role is very manual, hands-on and multi- disciplinary; the successful candidate will support the day-to-day co-ordination of stock & waste management for 9x Covid-19 testing labs at AMB on a shift pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off (including weekends).

Key Tasks

* To carry out all scientific support activities in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, GLS & GXP

* Proactively deliver operational laboratory support, managing workload and service levels as required by the customer

* Act as a contact for key customers & seek to understand their business requirements

* Actively engage with several stakeholders daily to ensure the smooth running of the service (including building/maintaining relationships with Camb. Uni, AZ, CBRE, Sodexo)

* Stock management including receipt, replenishment and distribution of laboratory consumables, chemicals/reagents and PPE to meet end user requirements

* Maintenance of laboratory Point of Use areas (PoUs) by routine replenishment

* Management of laboratory waste, including infectious waste for autoclaving

* “Lift & shift”, manual tasks involving transportation of trollies/cages around building

* Fully supportive of shift hand-over process, escalating issues & proposed solutions

* Proactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements where possible

Your Skills, Experience and Knowledge

* Knowledge of stock management systems, Health and Safety, Good Laboratory Standards

* Experience of working in a laboratory environment

* Able to build relationships with other teams/suppliers and deliver results in a matrix environment, working with multiple internal and external partners and stakeholders

* Proven willingness to work flexibly in a team with minimal direct supervision

* Willing to cover others within Avantor, including travel to other Cambridge sites if required

* Proven ability to take on new activities in an efficient manner and to support and train others to a level of competency consistent with the role

* Ability to manage customer expectations & provide professional level of customer service

* Excellent communicator at all levels and enjoys working as part of a team

* Proficient in data capture, analysis and reporting utilising various IT systems

* Self-motivated, energetic, dependable, honest, paying close attention to detail

* Problem-solving capabilities & confidence to react promptly to deliver the service

* Good planning, organisational and analytical skills

* Good time management skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities/tasks

* Must have own means of transport due to early/late shifts

We are looking for candidates who can start immediately in a temporary 12-month role. The role includes a 4 day on 4 day off shift pattern (including weekends) with working hours 06:00 - 15:00 and 15:00 - 12:00 (subject to change). We offer a salary of £ 20.000 per annum with a 25% shift allowance.
