3-month Temporary contract

We're currently seeking Lab Assistants in and around Liverpool to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UK's NHS Test and Trace programme.

As well as playing a vital role in supporting society's return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the country's most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.

You will be joining a supportive environment and will be provided with training and accreditation for the role and processes you are required to undertake.

This role will be working day and night shift patterns from Shifts (12 hr/Day & Nights over 7 days) 8am-8pm, or 8pm-8am

Your responsibilities:

To work under the supervision of Health Professions Council registered staff undertaking:

Specimen reception duties
Data entry of demographic and request information into the computer systems
report sorting and distribution and general housekeeping duties.
Supporting lab technicians with the receipt and preparation of samples
Maintaining outstanding worklists

You'll need to ensure that processes are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the laboratory's required standards, performing the role in accordance with technical documents and SOPs compliant with the laboratory's accredited standards.

Full training and supervision will be provided.

Your experience:

In order to be successful, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:


3 GCSEs or equivalent including English language.


Computer literate
Good oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Good telephone manner and switchboard skills.
Keyboard skills.
Ability to work as part of a teamPlease note that as a Lab Assistant, you are not required to have extensive experience across all desirable competencies described above and will be provided with training and accreditation for the roles and processes you are required to.


Strong attention to detail and able and willing to perform routine, manual tasks
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Able to pick skills up quickly and apply in a laboratory-based environmentDesirable

Experience working in a laboratory setting (academic, clinical or industrial)
IT Literacy
Experience of working in an NHS environment.
Awareness of Health and Safety.

In return:

We are offering an hourly rate of £10.20/hr for day shift and £12.44/hr for night shift.
