What is the purpose of this role?

An opportunity has arisen within the laboratories for a dedicated and diligent person to join the inorganic chemistry team. You will be responsible for the analysis of samples within a defined area to all UKAS and DWI standards and relevant H&S standard. Overall, you will provide the analytical service, which the client requires to fulfil its' statutory and operational needs.

What makes this role unique?

The role is within a fast moving quick turn round laboratory which must respond constantly to changing customer demands as well as supplying the regulatory and statutory commitment of the company. The post involves the supervision of highly automated state of the art equipment, with a very high level of investment in on job training of yourself and the team around you. The role involves interaction within a fairly large team, as well as individual work.

What will this role involve?

The Analyst will:

Carry out routine and non-routine analytical work, in line with the requirements of a highly regulated, DWI and ISO 17025, Laboratory.

Follow written procedures in all aspects of the role. Observe and follow all relevant Health and Safety procedures and protocols, within the Laboratory. This will include the routine use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Provide a high quality cost effective service to all customers.

Carry out basic maintenance of analytical equipment.

Deal with internal and external customers in a polite and professional manner.

Produce, record, maintain and verify data within a highly regulated UKAS accredited Laboratory. This will involve running a variety of automated and manual Laboratory techniques, relevant to the water industry and in particular instrument based analysis.

Work in a highly regulated environment giving excellent experience with business management systems, IT and data handling.

What skills are we looking for?

We are ideally looking for someone who has a first degree/HNC in chemistry (or related subject) or an A level chemistry minimum with previous experience in an analytical laboratory, however all training will be provided. You must have excellent communication and problem solving skills, with the flexibility and ability of working both individually and in a team with excellent attention to detail. You will be able to follow strict procedures and work well under pressure, along with being capable of changing direction and increasing your skills with time management and forward thinking. Computer Literacy is also needed for this role.
