We are looking for a talented Associate Application Engineer to work on our re-platformed VME services. These provide a number of the DWP's business critical citizen payment applications.
You will work alongside our platform application engineers, redesigning highly complex, predominantly batch based services ensuring its integrity to safe guard the delivery of £100+ billion of payment to over 20 million citizens.
The tech stack predominantly comprises COBOL, Oracle DB, C, Python Tuxedo and Java running on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform utilising Autosys to provide the batch scheduling capability.
You should have knowledge and experience (either educational or commercial) of software development concepts and languages, and you will be mentored and supported by our senior Engineers. It's a great place to build your skills and your career while delivering stuff with genuine impact.
The skills and experience you will need:
Software engineering, frameworks and languages (for example tools like COBOL, MicroFocus COBOL, C, Python Java), tools and best practice.
Automated test frameworks and methodologies.
Knowledge and awareness of relational databases, Like SQL and Oracle.
Problem analysis and application maintenance.
Distributed version control systems such as Git.
Knowledge of concepts like APIs, RESTful services, Object Orientated programming.
Cobol and Object Orientated Cobol (Desirable)
Demonstrable experience of C (Desirable)
