IT Desktop Systems Specialist

The Role

This role provides day-to-day technical support to employees for network infrastructure and internal desktop systems software and hardware.

Duties and responsibilities:

*Provide local support to Bristol users in person as well as via email, telephone, instant messaging and our internal IT ticketing system
*Provide remote support to users based at our other Europe offices via email, telephone, instant messaging and our internal IT ticketing system
*Prepare PCs for both new employees and as replacements to old hardware for existing employees
*Maintain installed PCs, networks, telephone systems and peripherals with routine maintenance
*Identify, log and resolve technical problems with software applications or network systems
*Responsible for ensuring system backup procedures are in place and tested in accordance with company policy
*Responsible for ensuring security software is up-to-date across end user devices across EMEA sites and that any potential concerns or incidents are dealt with promptly
*Installs, configures and troubleshoots desktop systems, workstations and network issues in a heterogeneous environment.
*Maintains passwords, data integrity and file system security for the desktop environment. Communicates highly technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
*May participate in development of information technology and infrastructure projects.
*May conduct training programs designed to educate an organization's computer users about basic and specialized applications.

Required Qualifications and Experience

*Knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems including Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10
*Understanding of computer networking concepts such as network switches, wireless access points and other similar technology, with enough understanding to effectively troubleshoot local and site to site connectivity issues with various troubleshooting techniques/tools
*Understanding of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and other similar Windows based desktop applications. Versions 2010 and 2016 preferred.
*1+ years of Desktop support experience in medium to large corporate environment
*Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
*Ability to multi-task and excellent interpersonal communication skills
*Maintenance skills for laptop, desktop and server hardware, including but not limited to hard drive replacement, memory upgrades, expansion card installation and performance troubleshooting
*English as primary language. French and/or German languages beneficial but not required.
