Job Description

We are currently working in partnership with a high profile government sponsored national project in the Milton Keynes area. We require a Head of Health and Safety for the Milton Keynes site.
Current contract length for this position is 3 months with a possible extension.
Working as part of a growing team, you will manage, maintain and develop the companies Health and Safety management systems.
Working within the organisation’s Quality and Health & Safety documentation and procedures and under the guidance and direction from the COO and Senior Management Team, you will be managing:
Health and Safety
1.Create (agenda’s, checks etc.) and hold regular health and safety meetings with key stakeholders in the company.
2.Implementing COVID-19 regulations across all areas of the organisation and ensuring compliance by all staff, and personnel on site (visitors, contractors)
3.Work with developers on creating a new more ‘user friendly’ health and safety software/interface package
4.Assist the managers to ensure all work areas are working to a class 2 safety standard.
5.Manage all health and safety documentation in line with the company’s document management systems
6.Manage all aspects of health and safety at external clinics located at Newcastle, Reading and Bristol
7.Creation of any new health and safety documentation ensuring HSE guidelines and regulations are adhered too.
8.Provide input to the creation and updates of all health and safety manuals and documentation including SOP’s, COSHH, MSDS and Risk Assessments.
9.Assist in any projects ensuring they are compliant with health and safety regulations.
10.Responsible for all health and safety activities
11.Work with the Facilities Manager on fire evacuation procedures and fire systems in line with British Standards, health and safety regulations and legal requirements
12.Work with internal teams to create and develop a positive health and safety culture.
13.Manage the internal health and safety systems, audit programs and documentation.
14.Monitor changes in legislation ensuring compliance at all times.
15.Create a proactive approach to health and safety and support HR with occupational health services.
·Demonstrable experience of working at a senior level in an organisation to establish and develop a Health and Safety function and culture.
·Experience of supporting/managing health and safety within a class 2 laboratory, specifically handling of biological samples and use of automated scientific equipment.
·Experience of working to recognised quality systems and to strict health and safety regulations
·Able to work effectively in a team but also to complete agreed tasks with a minimum of supervision
·Qualified to NEBOSH standard or equivalent.
·Able to work accurately (to verbal or written instructions or to SOPs) and to tight deadlines
·Experience of training staff in all aspects of health and safety (or facilitating)
·Willing and able to travel in the UK occasionally.
·Full, clean driving license
·Must be able to plan own workload
·Able to hold meeting, listen and clearly communicate results or issues
·Sets and maintains high standards for self; dissatisfied with average performance
·The ability to complete all health and safety checks in line with the health and safety regulations
·IT literate; use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word etc) or similar
