Mission Systems

The Head of Engineering Discipline role is based within our Mission Systems business area.

The difference our new Head of Engineering Discipline will make

As the Head of Engineering Discipline, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The Head of the Engineering Discipline is an integral part of the Technology Discipline leadership team, reporting directly to the Engineering and Technology Director for UK Mission Systems.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for designing, developing and delivering UK Mission Systems' engineering skill base in support of the global engineering strategy and the Mission Systems business strategy. You'll lead the Engineering Discipline by example to embody Babcock's purpose and principles. You'll be accountable for the provision of suitably qualified and experienced technical staff to projects so that projects deliver brilliantly to customers. As this includes intervening to address issues and identify resolutions when problems occur, a strong technical engineering ability will be required. You'll ensure the discipline has stretching and deliverable budgets that will equip the development of staff and tools, whilst maintaining rates at a competitive level and you'll manage the performance of the engineering discipline in accordance with the SLAs agreed with the LOBs and the Director of Operations, taking corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of business objectives. Working with the E&T Director, discipline peers and strategy/BD teams, identify the engineering capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs, identify gaps and prioritise development and transformation activities. With this, identify the best business strategy for delivery including setting strategies for recruitment, train to fit, off-load and subcontract to create the best business outcome.
