Job Description

This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing FinTech that is the preferred embedded financing platform for leading e-commerce platforms, tech companies and payment service providers. Our software platform enables our partners to offer flexible financing products in their own branding to their merchant base.

We believe that financial services in the future will not be delivered primarily by banks, but instead by customer-oriented tech companies that embed financing within other product suites, and we’re here to enable that. We are currently applying for authorisation as a payment institution as well.

The Role

We are looking to appoint our first Head of Compliance and MLRO. You’ll work as part of an ambitious, fast-paced and collaborative team. You will be building the compliance function and putting the relevant systems, processes and controls in place, as well as educating colleagues on their responsibilities, ensuring everyone takes ownership for their part. The role reports to the joint CEO’s and the Board while working closely with the Head of Operations, Head of Transformation, Commercial leaders and others.


• Identify and assess the financial crime and regulatory compliance risks to which the business is exposed and support the Board in establishing its risk appetite.

• Advise the Board and first line on regulatory obligations and expectations.

• Test and monitor the Company’s compliance, and report your assessment to the Board with recommendations.

• Build up compliance systems and processes and train the organisation on same.

• Assist conducting internal and external enquiries, and investigations, where necessary and provide liaison, reports and witness statements to UK NCA and other competent authorities.

• Liaise with the FCA and ensure that reporting and notification obligations are fulfilled.

• Monitor and track the regulatory horizon, appraise the Board of upcoming developments and advise the first line of necessary changes in respect of financial services regulation

Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience as a Head of Compliance/MLRO or a deputy in a payments business.

• Gravitas to operate at a senior level reporting to the Board and with the FCA as required.

• In depth knowledge of payments regulatory framework.

• In depth knowledge of the relevant financial crime obligations.

• Experience of establishing and implementing a compliance framework in an established business that is becoming authorised as a payment institution.

• Experience in a growth SME

• Collaborative and flexible working style

• Positive communication skills at all levels of the organisation

• Ideally experience within SME lending (desirable)

• Understanding of other areas of regulation, such as Data Protection, is a benefit Offer of the role will be conditional on the candidate’s approval by the FCA as a PSD (Payment Services Directive) individual
