Job Description

Our client is an ambitious family-run manufacturing and sales agri-business, currently with two production facilities near Garstang and Preston. With a strong reputation for delivering innovative products, the company is driven by manufacturing high-quality products that deliver true value to farm customers in terms of their finances and environment. 

The Role:-

This new position will represent a diverse range of work and one that will deliver a significant amount of benefit to the company. This will include carrying out production requirements at both the farm site, a large-scale manufacturing facility, and the company HQ, a smallscale production facility.
After successful completion of the six month probationary period, the candidate will be required to live on-site at the Farm site and be responsible for night call outs, with the benefit of contribution towards farmhouse rental and extra call out payments.

Key Responsibilities:-

During Probationary Period (before moving in to the Farmhouse):

HQ Responsibilities (under the guidance of the Operations Manager):
  • Packaging of small (1 kg) product lines
  • Ensuring the warehouse is kept in good order
  • Forklift truck driving
  • Carrying out effective stock control procedures
  • Updating/ upkeep of records
  • Carrying out basic quality control (QC) testing
  • Occasional driving on behalf of the company using work van

 Farm Site Responsibilities (under the guidance of the Logistics Manager/ Site Manager):
  • Driving of telehandler (moving product around site and loading of vehicles);  Forklift truck driving;
  • Filling of bags with finished products and preparation of pallets;
  • Operating machinery (including biomass boiler and dryer);
  • Quality control procedures (including dry matter readings of finished products and record keeping);
  • Proactive upkeep of site;
  • Good working relationships with other Operatives, Site Manager and Hauliers/Farm collections;

Lone working;


After Probationary Period (i.e. after moving in to the Farmhouse):

Night Watchman Responsibilities (at least four nights per week):
  • When alerted of faults (via the Building Management System), prompt fixing of faults and returning plant to operation.
  • General proactivity around safety and security of the site.   
  • Responsible upkeep of the farmhouse.

Skills Required:
  • Good work ethic
  • Conscientious
  • Telehandler trained (training can be provided for the right candidate)
  • FLT licence
  • Full driving licence
  • Good time-keeping
  • Good problem-solving abilities
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work unsupervised

   Salary & Benefits:
  • Overtime paid at £9/hour
  • 31 holiday days per annum (including 8 bank holidays)

After completion of six-month probationary period:
  • Contribution towards farmhouse rental: £400/month = E£,800/annum  
  • Night call out = E20 per call out


Working Hours:
  • 40 hours per week (Monday — Friday) split roughly 50:50 between HQ and Farm Site
  • Overtime working is available (including weekend work)
