Facilities Operative

4 weeks Full Time - (37hours)

Location - Alton


Start Date - ASAP

Key Purpose

To provide efficient and effective facilities support to the Campus and ensure that the general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained to the required standards.
To be responsible together with other members of the Facilities Team for the security of the Campus buildings.
The post holder is to carry out safe working practices at all times, being conscious of students, staff and visitors in the vicinity.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Participate in the alternating shift pattern in operation between the hours of 06:00 to 22:00. These hours may be condensed out of term time according to work requirements
Participate in the Saturday rota as and when called upon by workload or the community engagement programme. Participants will not be called upon more frequently than 1 in 4 Saturdays
According to shift, be responsible for the unlocking of buildings or the locking up of buildings ensuring all windows are checked and closed.
Carry out statutory maintenance checks such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, refuge call points, fire alarms, water temperatures, fire doors, etc.
Carry out water flushing routine for infrequently used outlets especially out of term time
Ensure that electrical equipment and lights are switched off when not in use
To be conversant with all buildings layout, entry/exit points, isolation points, safety systems and equipment
Ensure the buildings and grounds are clean and clear of rubbish. Clean specified areas as and when required. Also ensure that external refuse bins are emptied routinely to prevent overflow.
Ensure the state of the grounds is to a reasonable standard including; cutting grass, cutting back hedges/bushes, leaf clearance, tidying borders, removing weeds, clearing out drains, etc
Assist with the routine waste collection and disposals
Prepare rooms for lectures/examinations and functions in accordance with agreed room layouts for designated activities.
Ensure all incidents and faults are reported to the facilities help desk. Also, liaise with relevant building occupants to inform them of the impact of the incident/fault
To direct, manage or escort contractors as required according to the task at hand
Where appropriate, challenge unauthorised visitors and report their presence
