Job Description

Our client is a privately owned business that operates a 2,600-acre freehold estate including in the Bristol area.  It handles one of the largest diversities of cargoes of any port in the UK.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to be their Engineering Director. You will have primary responsibility for the management and successful delivery of day-to-day maintenance and capital projects covering both mechanical (cranes and plant) and port infrastructure & buildings.

The following characteristics are those expected in the ideal candidate:

 

  • A chartered engineer with a Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering degree. 

  • A 10 - 15 year  track record in a relevant industry, ideally with experience at Director or at least senior manager level.

  • An in depth knowledge of implementing and improving rigorous maintenance schedules across all equipment.

  • A good level of familiarity with advanced systems and regulations relating to health and safety and compliance.

  • Proven Commercial experience to initiate, monitor and deliver complex £multi-million projects and a good knowledge of works procurement and contracts.

In addition to these key aspects of work experience, you need a range of softer skills to motivate and nurture a diverse team with a huge range of differing skills and experience.

You will be comfortable working in a team environment but demonstrate the ability to lead from the front, operate independently and absorb pressure.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  

  • Provide technical expertise for all engineering and infrastructure projects from design brief to completion.

  • Manage and ensure engineering projects are delivered on time. 

  • Oversee all maintenance of the Port's plant, equipment, buildings and infrastructure, including development of maintenance processes and schedules.

  • Control engineering costs within agreed budgets. 

  • Lead, develop and support a team of 100 engineers and technicians. 

  • Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with H&S Legislation. 

  • Manage utility services for the Company's tenants and ensure a satisfactory level of service is provided. 

  • Drive cost effective engineering design solutions. 

  • Manage a variety of onsite sub-contractors. 

  • Ensure that all contract work is managed and carried out in accordance to agreed specification and to time and cost targets. 

  • Promote the use of modern and sustainable technologies.

  • Ensure the appearance of the Dock Estate is kept to a high standard. 

  • Develop relationships with external organisations and companies
