What is the purpose of this role?

We are currently recruiting for an ambitious and forward-thinking Distribution Centre Manager for a major player in the utilities sector based at their brand new distribution centre in Didcot, serving the Thames Valley region.

As the Distribution Centre Manager you will be required to provide first class professional warehousing, outbound delivery and in-bound collection service across all locations with critical stock and equipment that is key to support the operational teams when facing customer and operational incidents.

You will provide leadership and direction to all employees operating out of this centre, maintain positive and collaborative relationships with their service providers and collect key performance information on service delivery to support the Supply Chain Commercial Team.

You will need to ensure that the warehouse processes are in place and reflect the need to robustly deliver service continuity and respond to logistical events in a timely manner while continuing to deliver excellent customer service.

What makes this role unique?

The business are a major utility services provider, with 15 million customers, 4,500 employees and 4,000 contractors.

Their Logistics Management Centre (LMC) is a central, single point of contact for the business.

As a centralised operation, the LMC combines mobile equipment that is available from strategic suppliers, hire companies and the business itself. This is managed in one integrated unit in order to meet customer demands and to allow the most effective use of this equipment across all sites and operations. Thus presenting an end-to-end, single real-time view of logistics demand and capacity.

What will this role involve?

Responsible for organising the safe and efficient receipt, storage and despatch of warehoused goods.

Processing warehouse and equipment orders.

Delivery of warehoused goods in line with agreed SLA and optimum route.

Operating IT systems including SAP warehouse management systems.

Experienced in the use of RFID.

Liaising with customers and other internal teams.

Leading and developing the RDC team.

Maintaining statistical and financial records.

Resource and transport planning.

Maintain budget.

Administer stock control processes and that stock discrepancies +/- are thoroughly investigated in order to provide a robust audit trail.

Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met within Company and legal frameworks.

Comply with Driver's regulations & Working Time Directive in line with the O license legalisation and Company procedures.

In addition to these duties, you may be required to undertake other duties in line with the needs of the business, where appropriate training provided.

What skills are we looking for?

Do you have relevant experience, delivering high service levels of spares and equipment to operational teams, ideally within the water industry or a comparable experience in logistics or management at another utility or large company? If so this could be the perfect role for you!

We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively, being able to work closely across the business and with suppliers and 3rd parties. You will be technically experienced with a good understanding of logistics and warehousing. You must be meticulous at documenting the finer details of what needs to take place and be process driven with the ability to write processes to deliver the service reliably.

This is a busy role where you will need to manage a large work load of numerous jobs in parallel, possess strong communications skills, good decision making abilities and be financially astute.

You must be competent with IT systems (you will use SAP: Inventory Management, Warehouse Management and Sales & Distribution extensively) and have with a clean driving licence. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry would also be essential.

Company information & Salary

This role is based at Didcot Regional Distribution Centre in Oxfordshire.

In return you will receive a salary of up to £42,000 per annum dependant on experience. The working hours are 36 hours a week between the hours of 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. We also offer a competitive benefits package, including an excellent contributory pension (up to 12%) and 26 days holiday per year.
