About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Design Manager to join our Design Management Group at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world.
The demands on our facilities are constantly changing, as the pursuit of modern safety standards and changing requirements drives the need for revised and enhanced engineering solutions. The Design Management Group is a key customer-facing department which provides key analysis, advice and engineering outputs to the Facility Design Authorities for both Nuclear and Non-Nuclear facilities within HMNB Devonport.
As a Design Manager within the DMG you'll be responsible for the delivery of assigned single and multi-disciplinary design projects to the required scope, quality standards, schedule and cost. You'll draw on your previous experience of leading the delivery of facility designs and upgrades to manage the technical aspects of a project - from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.
The provision of safe, available and capable facilities is at the heart of what we do, and without these services the delivery of the submarine and warship upkeep programmes would not be possible.
What do I need to do the role?
You'll hold a degree in a STEM subject (or demonstrable equivalent experience) and be registered as a Chartered/Incorporated Engineer (or able to evidence that you are working towards this) along with holding membership of a relevant professional body.
We would also like you to have the following:
Significant experience of leading the delivery of facility designs and upgrades on a nuclear licensed site.
A sound understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, gained from the nuclear or other regulated industry.
A proven track record of applying systems engineering principles to deliver fit-for-purpose design solutions in complex environments.Lastly, you'll need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, due to the levels of stakeholder management required by the role
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This requires you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
