Clyde

The Test Engineer is based within our HMNB Clyde business area.

As the Ministry of Defence's commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.

The role

The difference our new Test Engineer will make


As a Test Engineer you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll conduct commissioning activities including testing, diagnostics, and defect rectifications.

Day to day, you'll conduct Submarine Commissioning, Testing and Calibration activities. Write Test Forms/procedure and then Test. Ensure proper installation and run tests before handing across to the Navy (customer). You'll be involved in writing procedures and hands on testing. You'll also liaise with ship staff to carry out trials.

Essential experience

  • Completed a recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship
  • An HNC (or equivalent) and experience within a similar role are advantageous
  • Understanding of commissioning processes, 1st level and secondary systems, COSHH, quality assurance and planning processes
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software
